Introduction: When Shawn Fanning (Fanning) created Napster, a peer-to-peer (P2P)4 music file sharing5 service to have a programfor computer users that allowed sharing and swapping ofmusic files through a centralized server, it became one of themost ‘controversial ventures’ on the Internet. The service became hugely popular with themasses as it allowedwide range of choice and free download of copyrightedmusic. The growing popularity of Napster enraged theAmericanmusic industry leading to lawsuits and the eventual closure of Napster. However undeterred by its closure, Fanning launched SNOCAP, a legitimate file-swapping service providing several benefits to the copyright owners, independent labels and artists, the P2P networks and online users.Despite the benefits, it has to confront tougher challenges like providing the right kind ofmusic, the resistance for participation by theP2Pnetworks, competition, and dependence on different participants of themusic industry.
